Is it possible to add an Intel Chip to a Power Mac G5? If so, is this a service that MacShack provides?

This is not possible. Although you can bring your unit in for a trade and we can use your machine as a trade in towards a new unit with an Intel processor. We will also transfer your data at no charge. The quote usually takes about 48 hours to complete, then we provide you with an outright purchase value as well as a trade in value.

How do you do the quote? Do I have to bring my computer in? Do I have to leave it with your for the 48 hours?

Yes, we need to test the unit to evaluate it before quoting any price.

Hmmmm. I would be concerned about leaving my computer and all of the pertinent and/or private information with someone. I'll have to think about it. Thank you.

You should always back up your unit to prevent data loss, especially prior to any service. This is because hard drives can, and will fail at any time. We are in no way interested in anyones private data. If you like, set up a temporary account for us to use for testing, and your data will remain secure. If you choose to accept our trade in offer, we will transfer your data to the new machine that you choose. Then we will perform a 7 pass erase on your old hard drive to ensure that your data is completely removed from the drive, and is not recoverable.
